loving (and using) the one you're with....      

capturing sunrise with my iPhone

last week i went out with the dogs early in the morning and walked right into a gorgeous sunrise. at first i cursed myself for not taking my Olympus with me, but then i realized i could use my iPhone instead. i absolutely love what my iPhone and i managed to accomplish together....  

today Tracey Clark posted at shutter sisters about a similar experience with the same wonderful results.
so here's a big hurray for the iPhone!

talking in photographs part 1
nature

my passion for photography started with nature.
the more i explored the landscape around me, the more i became aware of the beauty of its colors, lines and shapes.
the deeper my perception of that beauty in its myriad details, the stronger my desire to 'capture' it and show it to the world
i started shooting the landscape behind my house with my iPhone in december 2010 and haven't stopped since.
with my images, shared through my first photoblog, i am telling the landscape's story, recording the changes from day to day, from year to year.

here are some examples of the images that are closest to my heart.

flowers in the most beautiful colors and shapes, attracting butterflies and bees

our dutch national icon, the mill, a true landmark in our polder

all the animals on the land and in the water, the landscape's main inhabitants...

the constantly shifting colors of the lake and the majestic lowland skies

the countless shades of green, translucent with sunlight or moist with raindrops

and last but not least: the people enjoying and savoring the landscape, be it on foot, by bike or from the water.

a ferry tale
a tribute to James the ferry-man

It's early in the morning and James is starting his day with firing up the ferry's engine, sending wafts of smoke across the water

He crosses the river Zijl to prepare the jetty on the other side.

As soon as he has moored, he climbs his ladder to fasten and hoist his flags.

The knots are tied very carefully and extensively.

And then it is time to get the flags up in the air..... Today they are orange, with red, white and blue boats, because it is Queen's Day... He has manufactured the flags himself!

When all is done and checked, it is time to cross to the other side again and wait for his first fare.

Within minutes, the passengers are flocking to the jetty, patiently waiting for James to take them aboard.

The ferry is already arriving, carrying passengers from the other bank.

James moors the ferry, opens the gate and the passengers get off and on board, continuing their journey.

He collects the fare, tosses the ropes and takes off again, with his new cargo....

Back to the other bank, knowing he will probably repeat this trip numerous times today, since it is a holiday and the weather is fine

It is spring, and nature provides both sparkle and shine in abundance!

This morning i captured some of the beautiful glittering gold reflections in a stagnant muddy pool with overhanging branches.
